The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is generally undulating with steep slopes with picturesque deep river valleys and rich hilly forest terrains. The breathtaking alleys, regal looking meandering rivers and the splendid scenic beauty of the Syntheri Rocks make it an inspiring experience. The forest in Dandeli is a typical moist deciduous and semi evergreen type, with pockets of ever green. The main wildlife species include Black Panther Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, Gaur, Flying Squirrel, Mouse Deer, Slender Loris etc., and main bird species include magpie robin, golden backed woodpecker, crested serpent eagle and a large variety of other birds.

Dandeli is approximately 145 Kms from Goa (Panaji), 480 Kms from Pune and Bengaluru (Capital City of Karnataka). Dandeli is well connected with the other parts of the country by road, rail and air. The city is located along the banks of the River Kali with the Western Ghats as a backdrop. The location is surrounded by dense deciduous forests and semi evergreen forest, which is one of the richest and rare wildlife habitats in the world.
